AN INVESTIGATION ON THE ROLE OF THE CODE OF ETHICS IN ENHANCING SCHOOL SUPERVISION FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

This study investigated the role of the Code of Ethics in enhancing school supervision for national development in Nigeria. Adopting a descriptive survey design, the study focused on principals and teachers in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. A total of 100 participants (40 principals and 60 teachers) were selected through a multi-stage sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaires were validated and reviewed through expert in Educational Administration and Management and a reliability coefficient of 0.81 was obtained using Cronbach’s alpha. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that school supervision significantly contributes to national development by enhancing educational productivity, improving teacher performance, and aligning school activities with developmental goals. Ethical supervision was also found to foster accountability, minimize favoritism, and improve both teacher morale and student academic outcomes. Moreover, ethical supervisory practices promote equitable access to educational opportunities, supporting inclusivity and sustainability in education. The study concludes that adherence to the Code of Ethics in school supervision is essential for achieving quality education and advancing national development. Recommendations include integrating ethical training in leadership development programs and strengthening the implementation of ethical standards in school administration.
