Abstract

Funding education for sustainable development is viewed as an essential factor in the educational system. Education being a huge investment is capital intensive whereby government alone cannot adequately fund it. Education institutions are expected to resort to 
funding options for sustainable development. This paper examined funding options for sustain education in the university in terms of regular contributions from communities, state, large company and regular support from international organizations. Sustainable education is key to any successful development, be it economic, environmental or social. The study focused at the concepts of sustainable education, principles, immersion as well as relationship between funding options and sustainable education in Nigeria. The study recommended among others that Government should recognize sustainable education as a public good, accepts the 
responsibility of providing sufficient funds for the programmes. Tertiary education is to incentivized, invest in and operate the provision of education, based on market demand and supply framework. The private sector also would be encouraged to mobilize investment capital. The study also recommended that Students should be more proactive, practical and consciously productive in their various course of study. Bringing in new skills and ideas in the various areas of studies. Invent, innovate, create and make it available for the university use through their research work.
