MANAGING CLASSROOM ISSUES FOR RE-ENGINEERING STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN RIVERS STATE

The study investigated managing classroom issues for re-engineering students’ performance in Public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population was 6174 teachers in all the 311 public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The sample was 400 teachers using proportionate sampling technique. The research instrument used for data collection was titled “Managing Classroom Issues for Re-engineering Students’ Performance Questionnaire” which consisted of demographic data as well as response variables to address the two research questions. The internal consistencies of the instrument were established using Cronbach method. The reliability coefficients are: Managing Classroom Issues for Re-engineering Students’ Performance is 0.84 while managing students’ safety issues was 0.81 and managing population size issues was 0.86 respectively. Out of 400 copies of questionnaire administered, 388 copies were properly filled and retrieved which represents 97% success rate. The research questions were answered using Mean and Standard Deviation statistics while the hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings among others revealed that managing students’ safety issues to a high extent leads to re-engineering students’ performance while the hypothesis showed that there is a significant difference between the mean rating of male and female teachers on the ways of managing students’ safety issues for re-engineering students’ performance. It was concluded that managing classroom issues involve managing students’ safety issues and managing population size issues for re-engineering students’ performance in Public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. It was recommended that school management should lay emphasis on managing students’ safety issues to promote re-engineering students’ performance.
