Abstract

The study was carried out on influence of teachers’ participation in administrative decisionmaking on teachers’ job performance in public Secondary Schools in Onitsha North LGA. The study seeks to determine the conflict management strategies adopted by principals for effective school administration in public secondary schools in Onitsha North LGA. Two research questions guided the study. The population comprised 403 teachers in Secondary Schools that made up the Secondary Schools in Onitsha North LGA. The sample size for the study was 250. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire. It was validated by 3 experts, two from Educational Foundations and one from Measurement and Evaluation in Faculty of Education from Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University, lgbariam Campus. The reliability of the instrument was done through test retest and the reliability coefficient was 0.71. The data was analyzed through mean rating. The study found among things that principals’ use compromise, avoidance as a strategies for effective school administration in public secondary schools in Onitsha North LGA .Based on the findings it was recommended among others that principals should be trained on different strategies for management of conflicts in the school. Also secondary school principals should operate an open door policy to welcome complaints and listen to staff on conflict matters. And conflict matters must be attended to as fast as possible and must not be allowed to escalate before attending to them
