RE-ENGINEERING ETHICAL STANDARDS FOR EFFECTIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL SUPERVISION IN NIGERIA FOR SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Ethical supervision practices in secondary schools play a vital role in fostering a positive and productive educational environment, ultimately leading to improved educational quality. However, there is a recognized erosion of ethical behaviour including trust and integrity within the Nigerian education system. Thus, the alarming rate of misconduct in Nigerian schools underscores the need for re-engineering ethical standards to maintain integrity within the educational system. This paper examines the profound impact of ethical standards in the supervision of secondary schools in Nigeria on the overarching goal of sustainable development. In order to achieve this  the researcher examined scholarly perspectives on the conceptual framework of ethical standards and supervision, exploring their interplay with educational quality and national development goals, analysing supervisory functions, identifying existing challenges in maintenance of ethical standards in school supervision, and suggesting strategies for re-engineering ethical standards in the supervision of secondary schools in Nigeria.
