INSTITUTIONAL VARIABLES AND TECHNICAL STAFF SERVICE DELIVERY IN HIGHER INSTITUTIONS IN CROSS RIVER STATE, NIGERIA

This study examined institutional variables and technical staff service delivery in higher institutions in Cross River State, Nigeria. The study is an Ex-post facto research that involved a stratified random sample of 449 technical staff from the three universities in Cross River State. The population of the study was 2768 technical staff. Two research questions were answered using descriptive statistics. The reliability and validity for the questionnaires were obtained using Cronbach Coefficient Alpha of .81-.90. Data collection was carried out using institutional variables and technical staff service delivery questionnaire (IVTSSDQ). Two theories were used to support the study and literature reviews were carried out accordingly to the variables of the study. Independent t-test and One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Fisher Least Significant Difference were used to test the hypotheses. The results obtained revealed that institutional culture significantly influence technical staff service delivery while institutional size do not significantly influence technical staff service delivery. From the result it was concluded that to a large extent, technical staff service delivery is dependent on institutional variable. From the findings and conclusion, it was recommended among others that, the university management should maintain good working culture especially now that university is autonomous. That will give the technical staff a sense of inclusiveness that is motivational and productive for the achievement of university goal.
